Alcide (Giorgio) di Sarra studied Physics at the University of Rome Sapienza. He has been research scientist at the Italian National Agency for New Technology, Energy, and Sustainable Economic Development (ENEA) since 1988, and Research Director since 2009. His scientific interests are focussed on climate monitoring and climate-related processes, mainly in the polar regions and in the Mediterranean. He contributed to the development of the Thule High Arctic Atmospheric Observatory (THAAO, Greenland) since its beginning, in 1990, participating in many international experiments and field campaings. Has been PI for the lidar system operational at THAAO, as part of the Network for Detection of Atmospheric Composition Changes. He is also PI for the scientific activities carried out at the Station of Climate observations on the island of Lampedusa, in the Mediterranean. In 2002 he won the "Felice Ippolito" Research Prize assigned by the Italian Antarctic program. He taught at the University of Tuscia (Viterbo) and teaches courses on environmental physics and remote sensing at the University of Roma Tre and University of Venice Ca’ Foscari. He is author of more than 100 peer-reviewed international papers.
